Abstract |
"Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has rapidly become a leading research tool in the investigation of multiple sclerosis (MS). Recent technical advances made progress in understanding the substrateand mechanisms underlying the development and evolution of focal lesions and ‘diffuse’ damagein MS as well as the functional consequences of such structural abnormalities. Higher-field MRscanners and new positron emission tomography (PET) radio ligands has provided new insights intocellular and pathophysiological abnormalities, and would be valuable in future therapeutic trials. Thisreview summarizes advanced MRI approaches for the investigation of lesion burden and understandingof the pathophysiology of MS. Journal of Multiple Sclerosis 4(2):36-43, 2013" |
