Multiple Cerebral and Spinal Astrocytoma Mimicking Tumefactive Demyelinating Disease

Abstract

"A 55-year-old male complained of gait disturbance and dysarthria for 2 weeks. Brain MRI showed multiple ill-defined, scattered lesions, including a tumefactive enhancing lesion. Spinal cord MRI showed a cord lesion at T2-3 without enhancement. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy demonstrated a high choline/N-acetyl-aspartate ratio, suggesting malignancy. Stereotactic biopsy revealed astrocytoma. Herein, we report an uncommon case of multiple gliomas involving both the brain and spinal cord, mimicking central nervous system tumefactive demyelinating diseases and metastatic diseases.
